The Mexican Chemical Society was founded in 1956 as a non-profit association to promote thedevelopment of the professionals of chemistry in education, research, services and industry, and for the diffusion of chemical knowledge.

The Mexican Chemical Society organizes annually the National Congress of Chemistry and the National Congress of Chemical Education, that include activities ofcurrent interest for the professionals and students of the chemical sciences. It also grants the Andrés Manuel del Río annual Award in the areas of research, education, industry and technological development.

The Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society (Rev. Soc. Quím. Méx.) is the official Journal of the Sociedad Química de México since 1957 and is devoted to the advancement of the understanding of chemistry. It is a trimonthly journal and the instructions for authors appear in the first issue of volume.
